Leg
Varicose Vein and Spider Vein
Description
Leg veins can be unsightly and
painful. They can make you self-conscious
and appear older than your actual
age. There are a few treatment
options that are reasonably painless
and provide results fairly quickly.
Candela GentleYAG Treatment
For Leg Veins
One option for leg vein removal
is a laser leg vein treatment.
Laser treatments are commonly
used to remove small spider veins
with few treatments.
Laser Leg Vein and Spider Vein
Removal Treatment
-
Each treatment takes anywhere
from fifteen to sixty minutes,
depending on the number of
veins to be removed, and can
be repeated every four to
twelve weeks as needed.
-
During the treatment, a
long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser (Candela
GentleYAG) is used to
target the involved varicose
vessels.
-
The laser light heats the
blood vessels and seals them.The
body then absorbs these sealed
vessels over time and the
vein’s appearance is
diminished.
- If the vessels are not completely
reabsorbed by the body or if
the vessels only partially respond
to the laser, repeat treatments
will be needed until the desired
result is met. New veins can
form over time and additional
treatments may be needed.
Laser Leg Vein Removal Results
Laser leg vein removal is reasonably
painless and most patients can
return to regular activities the
same day. Use of medical grade
stockings is often recommended
for a few days after the treatment,
and strenuous activity as well
as alcohol, aspirin, and exercise
should be avoided for approximately
48 hours after the treatment.
Sclerotherapy Treatment for
Leg Varicose Vein Removal
The second commonly used treatment
for leg vein removal is called
sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy is
an injectible therapy that is
used to remove larger veins, spider
veins, and reticular veins. The
end result is the same as the
laser procedure, but instead of
using light, a chemical solution
is used.
During this treatment, the solution
is injected into the vein to be
removed, which causes it to close
and be absorbed by the body. While
this treatment does use needles,
it does not cause a great deal
of pain.
Are There Any Side Effects From
Sclerotherapy for Leg Varicose
Vein Removal?
The post-treatment recommendations
are the same as those with laser
treatment. There may also be some
small red or pink bumps and a
small amount of darkening, bruising
or swelling after the procedure.
